12/28/15 Merry Christmas!!!

This week was so amazing! Of course since it was Christmas it had to
be amazing! I'm here in Topeka, which is totally different than
everywhere I've served, there are no cows here, therefore it smells
pretty good. Also it's weird not having to drive an hour to district
meeting and seeing wheat fields for miles and miles! Whoever had the
car before us hit a deer... so our car was in the shop for awhile. We
had to ride the bus a lot, which actually was very good because we got
to talk to a lot of people. I not going to lie we were very happy to
get our jeep back!
For Christmas Eve we made 70 tamales with an investigator! Then
Christmas Morning it was the best Christmas present Skyping the
family! I can't believe how big everyone has gotten! We had another
Christmas Miracle! Daytona was baptized Dec 19th! It was such a
spiritual experience and it was so good to see all the support she got
from her family and the ward! She told us how she can tell a
difference in her life having the Holy Ghost with her. She truly is
changing from the atonement of Jesus Christ!

12/7/16 Good bye U-town, Hello Topeka :)

Dear everyone who is reading this letter,

I'm leaving Ulysses! Now they're only going to have one set of missionaries in Ulysses. So Sister Samani  and her new companion have a lot on their plate to pretty much take over the area and start teaching the people the Elders were working with. I'm going to be moving out of the west into the Wichita area in Topeka, which is an all English area. So that will be quite different. I'm used to small towns with wheat fields surrounding them and the amazing smell of cattle and so I'm going to the city. It's going to be quite a culture shock.

I really don't have much to say! It's been really cool during the Christmas season to have more people open to talking about Christ and we get to share this amazing video. Check it out: Christmas.mormon.org. We get to just bring out our ipad and portable speaker and share it with anyone. They can't have the excuse that they don't have a DVD player and that they don't have time because we say it's literally 2 minutes long. We had this one Spanish family who let us in their home. The guest that was there was the only one who was listening to the video and you could see he was leaning forward and was really intently listening. It was so amazing to see the affect that it had on him and how after that video we talked about the Book of Mormon and he was just so open to the BoM and he kept looking through it and reading different sections out loud.  and after we gave him a chapter to read he said he'd read the whole book. Too bad he's going to move to Mexico in a week. But that's okay. :)

The couple I mentioned last week are looking good to get married soon and get baptized on Christmas Eve! The mission is calling that day Noche Blanca, because so many people are going to be dressed in white that night of the baptism. It's going to be so special. It's so exciting. I don't even have words to express how much of a miracle it was to meet that couple. :)

We got a challenge to read the Book of Mormon in a month and we get an hour extra of study time to read and mark it.

We're marking Red- atonement, Blue-Faith, Green-Character of Christ. :)

11/30/15 life is good

Dear Familia y Amigos,

This week has been so amazing as always. The Lord has blessed us so much! I'm not only saying that because it was thanksgiving and I have to be grateful. But really, I am grateful for everything God has given me. We've had a hard time these two transfers with people committing to do really anything. I have a greater understanding of how God feels when I'm not doing what he wants me to do. But I feel like every second of this mission is worth it, even if only one person will choose to follow Christ's plan. We've seen so many miracles these past week. I'll share one of them.

So we have a conference call with the people in our district during the week to account for our week so far. We all weren't doing our best, and so we got a little rebuked. He was asking us what our reason behind the lack of work. Of course there were lots of different excuses, legitimate excuses, and yes we felt like we were working hard. Then a missionary said it's because of our lack of love for the savior. Man, it was a shot to the heart. But actually in the end it was really motivating. We've been working hard, but the rest of the week we were way more urgent and efficient.

One night when our plans fell through we were just knocking all of these doors near a trailor park, and it was freezing then we went to this one trailor with a car parked in the front. As we were about to go to the door at 8:50, a lady came out of the car and asked us what we wanted. She said she really didn't have time right then. Well we talked to her for like 2 minutes and she opened up. We felt prompted to invite her to be baptized and she said that she would and her daughters wanted to find a church to be baptized in. It was just so amazing that her heart softened immediately after we were talking to her.

We came back to that house the next day, and of course it was a bad time again, they were just fixing to leave. But we were talking to the 8 and 10 year old on the porch, about the Book of Mormon and they were so excited to read it. Then we hear a voice across the street, "Hey Sisters." So as I was still talking to the girls, my companion turned and talked to the lady across the street. She said to come by after we were done talking to them. Of course we went over. Turns out it was this young couple who moved from West Jordan Utah all the way to Ulysses Kansas in a car, then they sold their car to get a trailor. They want to completely change their lives around and they both want to start coming to church. They both came to church yesterday and met all of the members. The girl is a less-active and her boyfriend is a non-member. When we were talking about the Holy Ghost I asked her when she's felt it. She said that she knew that was the spirit guiding her when she saw us, and telling her to yell for us. They are so special! We're all like best friends, as if we all knew each other in the pre-mortal world. :)

I know our Savior loves us soo much and he gave his life for us and this is His true church on the earth! :)

11/23/15 I got to milk a cow!!!!

Dear Familia,
So I spent too much time looking at photos to send Cameron for the
DVD, instead of writing this email. I can't use half of my pictures
because their from the iPad and have low resolution. Hopefully the
photos worked.
So we milked cows today out on the farm. It's quite a forearm workout.
Casey should get a cow for his workout before climbing. Well actually
it wasn't to hard. You just pinch and squeeze and aim it into the
bucket. I decided I like the farm life. :) I guess I am a Webb :)

Anyway I'm so grateful for the gospel in my life! We got challenged
during someone's talk in sacrament to write down 100 things we're
grateful for! Challenge accepted!

11/16/15 Be Grateful! :)

Dear Familia,

So this week was amazing! We had our ward thanksgiving dinner. We had a lot of leftovers.. so they gave it all to the missionaries. I think they think we don't eat. So the members are really good at feeding us pretty much every night. I made some spanish salad for the dinner and it turned out pretty good, not nearly as good as mom's though! Another good thing my companion and I made was a Tongan food: Musubis. It's spam, eggs, and rice all wrapped in seaweed. We made that for our district meeting.

I sent a picture last week with me holding up rattle snake rattles. We were visiting some Less actives about 45 mins away from Ulysses. They collected rattle snake rattles and salt and pepper shakers. She literally has thousands of salt and pepper shakers. She has them ranging from Santa Clause to Watermelon shaped. She travels all over the world and buys them wherever she goes. She's been collecting them ever since she was about 8 years old and now she's 80. I couldn't believe it.

Violet has been really busy with work and we haven't been able to get a hold of her or find her. We've called her and texted her scriptures and that's the only contact we've had and she hasn't replied back. We mentioned her in ward council that we cant get a hold of her or see her at her house and they mentioned that she was probably just being nice to us. Well we decided to try to focus on other people more, which was sad because we knew there was something special about her. Well today we ran into her at the store and we're going to go see her later today! Apparently she's been really caught up at work, and her work is about an hour away. So we were so glad to find out she wasn't ignoring us!

We've really been working with part member families. There's this crazy house of about 4 families in one tiny house and a couple of them are members. We've also found a lot of potential families that we have appointments with this week. This next week we're going to see so many miracles!

The weather is actually pretty nice right now. But there's a storm headed tomorrow!

11/9/15 Families are Forever

Dear Family,

Thanks so much for all the support you've given me! I love all of you very much!

So this week we didn't have an apostle talk to us, but that's okay, it was still an amazing week. We've spend some time teaching part member families and it was so amazing to hear one of the girls say that it's "her dream to go to the temple" I know that the temple truly does seal us together as families for eternity.

We had a church tour with this lady named Violet. She was reluctant to have us talk to her at first because she said she went to another church. But then she slowly opened up. She didn't agree to setting an appointment until the next time we showed up again. She actually asked us if we could have a bible study at the church and then she set up the time. Well we didn't exactly have a bible study. Once she got to the church we had an amazing member come out with us and we asked her if we could show her around the church. It was the most spiritual church tour I've ever had. I don't know if it was partly because the member was a seminary teacher or what. Anyway we showed her around the church and explained the pictures on the wall of Christ. We actually spent quite a bit of time talking about the temple and doing baptisms for the dead. Which normally isn't what we talk about when we first meet someone. But really it was the spirit directing the church tour and she really liked the idea that she could be forever with her family especially with a sibling that passed away. She told us that we came at a perfect time in her life and that this is what God wants for her. The member testified that God really knows us individually and loves us so much and he's guiding us. We showed her the picture of Joseph Smith and told her the first vision. She thought that was the most beautiful thing she's ever heard. When we saw the picture of President Thomas S. Monson on the wall we explained having a prophet in these last days and receiving modern day revelation, which she agreed that of course we need modern day prophets to lead us. I was in awe just how much she agreed with everything we taught her. I thought to myself, okay this cannot get any better. But it did. We showed her the chapel and talked about the sacrament. We talked about how we renew the covenants we make at baptism. Then she asked the perfect question, "Where do you get baptized?" So then we showed her the baptismal font. We explained what baptism was and that she could be cleansed from everything she's done in the past and it's a covenant to follow Christ. Well we invited her to be baptized and her response was,"Yes." but the way she said it was like, of course I'll be baptized, type of look. There was no hesitation. Well we're so excited to be teaching this young mom and she'll fit right in with all the other moms in the ward. In the past 2 weeks we've had 3 babies born in our ward! Not to mention we already have like 6 toddlers/babies.

I'm so excited for Ashley to have her baby! :)

That was the highlight of the week. There definitely were more miracles that happened. For example, a less-active came that we never thought would come. Well we had faith he'd come but it was just so surprising! We know that he definitely enjoyed church and he participated the most out of anyone in our Spanish Gospel Principles class. Everyone was just so loving towards him and not caring the reasons behind him not coming. I'm sure he'll start coming more and be an example to his family.

Well It's amazing being a missionary. :) I know this is God's work and it definitely is hastening!

11/2/15 Bear your testimony!

Hola,

This week was absolutely amazing! Here are just some highlights. We got to hear from an Apostle of the Lord, Elder Stevenson. Well I'm not sure if I need to highlight anything else. That was just so amazing! But of course there were some other experiences worthy of my weekly letter home.

We found this one teenager about 3 weeks ago in a potential investigators house and we gave him to the Elders to teach. Turns out the 14 year old son wasn't just curious about the gospel, he really was seeking the truth. Within 5 minutes of talking to him he asked us about 50 questions about the bible and what were something's we believed weren't right to do. So fast forward a little bit and this kid has been reading the Book of Mormon. His mom doesn't believe that we even are Christians, so she grounded him for wanting to be baptized. She took away his truck (because in Kansas you can drive when you're 14) and his phone and wont even let him read the Book of Mormon. So this is a teenager, you'd think he'd love all of those things enough to just let it go and wait until he's 18 to be baptized. Well after much prayer and fasting his mom finally let him come to church this past Sunday. Luckily it was fast and testimony meeting. It was amazing to see his friend go up there and bear his testimony. Then at the very last minute, before the meeting ended, this shy 14 year old boy who just barely got introduced to the church, went up and bore his testimony. I'm sure just about the whole ward was in tears and moved by his testimony. He prayed and read the Book of Mormon and knows that it's true and this is the true church. He said that he's praying that his mom's heart will be softened to let him be baptized. After he bore his testimony Sister Samani and I looked at eachother and said, "What just happened?" Miracles do happen. So we'll see what happens next.

We met Elder Stevenson on Halloween night in Salina. We spent about 5 hours in a bus one way and 5 hours coming back. It was totally worth it. Those 21/2 that he spoke felt like 10 minutes long. I learned so much about how to be a better missionary. He talked a lot about his time serving as a Mission President in Japan and the stories of the missionaries there. He's such a down to earth, relatable person, but he teaches with power and authority. He taught us about having a vision, being obedient, and how to teach from preach my gospel. He compared himself a lot to the other general authorities. He said that whoever got to hear from Elder Holland on the mission to "lower their expectations" he said that's the only time in your life we should lower our expectations. Well he definitely isn't Elder Holland, or President Thomas S. Monson. It's hard to compare servants of the Lord, or anyone because everyone has something unique to bring to the table. Elder Stevenson taught me many things and I know that he truly is called of God.

I hope everyone had just as good of a Halloween night as me. But the only ghost I felt on Halloween was the Holy Ghost. :)

I love you all. I know our Savior lives and loves us. I know that this is the true church. I know obedience brings blessings.

10/26/15 Have Faith But Don't Be Gullible :)

Dear Family,

This week was so amazing! Well every week is amazing because it's the best 18 months of my life! We've been meaning to visit this less-active part member family for a while. But since they live over 30 minutes away in Johnson we didn't want to spend our miles going over there. Well we finally went to their house last week. Turns out it was perfect timing because the father broke his leg from an accident at work. We asked him if he'd like a blessing and of course he wanted one. There aren't too many families to contact to get a blessing, and no other active families in Johnson speak Spanish. Well we asked this one family who has 4 young children and are often pretty busy. To our surprise they all came over right away to give the blessing. It was so amazing because you could feel Christ's love in the room for these people in need. They haven't been to church for awhile, mainly because there aren't too many Spanish speakers there. But having this family there, I think they saw that we are all children of God and it doesn't matter the language we speak. They even made an effort to try to speak Spanish and English and we translated the rest. He gave a simple powerful blessing of health and that he'd be an example to his family. We all felt the spirit so strong and I wanted to cry. After they left, we told them that, "We can feel the spirit in any language." Well I guess we said that part in Spanish, but you get the idea. They committed to start coming to church! Then we had dinner with their son who's wife and daughters haven't been baptized yet. There's like 15 people total in this family and if one of them comes to church, we know all of them will come.They are all so close to coming to church and partaking of the atonement of Jesus Christ.

I have a couple of funny stories. One of them, I was on exchanges in Dodge City with one of the sister training leaders. We had lunch and dinner with members and both times there were 2 other sets of missionaries. The Elder mentioned a guy named Bob Sagget that I needed to find in Ulysses. They mentioned him at least 50 times during lunch and dinner. I thought they were making this person up, but then I kept thinking, why would an STL go along with it since sisters are way more mature than Elders? And why would an Elder who's used to be the Assistant to the President, make something like that up? So I went along with it. When we accounted for that night I was asked to say the prayer. I didn't pray for Bob Sagget and they told me that I needed to pray again. I was sure he wasn't a real person, but then after 3 minutes of silence, waiting for me to say the prayer, I said it again. I prayed with full faith we'd find this Bob and that he'd be baptized. Well after asking people in Ulysses and praying to find this Bob. The Elders in Ulysses finally told us that Bob was indeed a real person but that we wouldn't find him here. They told us, just right before ward council, so we wouldn't bring him up. Ok I hope all of you know who Bob Sagget is. He's the guy off of "Full House" and "America's Funniest home videos". I'm still laughing about this with my companion. I'm so gullible!

The other story was on exchanges. We went to this one house and we were talking to the mom, but the 8 year old kid would not open up at all. We noticed the mine craft book he was holding and asked questions about it, and we couldn't get him to stop talking. After that we talked to him about prayer and taught him how to pray. We asked him things he was grateful for so he could say it in his prayer. Then he left the room to grab a piece of paper. He started singing a song from school about what he's grateful for. It was funny because half of those things didn't apply to him but he still prayed that he was grateful for his dog, that he used to have and other random things. I learned a lot this week on just how we need to have Charity for people we're sharing the Gospel with, and when they see that we genuinely love them then they will be more receptive to the Gospel.

I love all of you so much! I really wish I had time to just write everyone personally and write 15 pages letters on just how grateful I am for every one of you. :)

I know that each one of us can be disciples of Christ and that when people see us, they will see Christ in our eyes.

10/12/15 Simplicity of the Gospel

My dear Brothers and Sisters!

So guess who is in our ward? JoAnn Dew!! Yep she's related to Sherry Dew, that's her mother!! I remembered that Aunt Paullas roommate was Sherry Dew, so I asked her if she remembered Paulla and she does! JoAnn isn't here all the
time though, she lives in Utah, but she's here in Ulysses to check the
farms. So it was really neat meeting her and talking to her about General Conference, especially since she is best friends with the 12 Apostles! Elder Uchtdorf gave her a kiss on the cheek. She said she didn't want to wash her face ever again! She is such a neat lady. She also knows Elder Nelson (who is now President Nelson) and sister Nelson.

Speaking of General Conference... It was such an amazing experience. Literally every talk I was on the edge of my seat. I think General Conference is a lot like the Super Bowl for Missionaries. I'm so grateful for the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that the Head of the Church is Jesus Christ and President Monson is truly the Mouth Piece for him as well as the 12 apostles. I know that the Mantle was truly placed upon Elder Rasband, Elder Stevenson, and Elder Renlund. I loved every single talk in conference and I'm trying to figure out which one to speak on for my talk next week in Sacrament Meeting.

This week we've met so many wonderful people. I'll tell you a couple of stories that Stood out. Well we ran into this lady who speaks Spanish, one night and we didn't get a chance to talk to her very long since it was getting late. We actually ran out of Spanish Book of Mormons since we moved to a new place and had very little supplies. She seemed interested but very busy with her work with McDonalds. Well a week and a half later we were walking down the street and decided to go up to a house that some little kids were playing in the front. The same lady just walked right outside and she invited us in. She was at her niece's house taking care of her kids and we just happened to be prompted to that house. We finally were able to give her a Book of Mormon. She was looking through the book and opened up to a scripture in 2 Nephi 9 and she read a verse and said how beautiful this book is and that she'll read the whole thing cover to cover! It was such an amazing experience! I know the Lord leads us in the right direction always!

Another amazing experience happened yesterday. We were invited to lunch at a members home after stake conference. We planned what we were going to talk about before and make it spiritual for that family. Turns out they had more of their family come and a nonmember came. We actually thought this girl was a member, but after talking to her she wanted to become a member. She's good friends with someone in the family and was at church several times. It was such a good experience talking to her because she really wants to learn more and be baptized one day. We definitely had to switch up our lesson in order to teach her as well. 

 We have found so many people just by having more lessons with the members and helping them be a disciple of Jesus Christ. We've been trained a lot on how we can better help the members because think of how much good 200 missionaries in a ward can do rather than 4 missionaries in a ward! We are starting to help families with their missionary plan. Surprisingly their are only 13 steps!

I know that the atonement is real and that we can overcome anything with our Savior. I know that Heavenly Father knows our hearts and answers every prayer. I know that Joseph Smith Restored the true church on the earth and I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God! This is my simple testimony that has kept me strong. I know there is beauty in the simplicity of this Gospel.

10/5/2015 Finally Home

Dear Familia,
So we got a home in Ulysses! It's right behind the high school
football field, and ironically our first night there was homecoming.
We could literally just look at the score of the game as we were going
into our house that night!
Conference was so amazing. Words cannot express how I felt while
listening to these inspired leaders! So I promise all is well but I
spent too much time p day playing the piano so I didn't get as much
time to email! I love you all so much! Thanks for all that you do and
all of your prayers!
I know the savior lives and we need to center our lives on Him! Keep
the commandments  because of your love for the Savior and Heavenly
Father!

9/28/2015 Conference!

Dear family,
So I'm still in the middle of no where with all the cow and pig farms!
I love it. I'm getting used to the smell. Like I said before, the ward
here is absolutely amazing. We're like one big happy family! We got
the opportunity to go to the women's conference at the church. Of
course the relief society had to make it a big event and had
everything decorated and people got to paint nails and write cards to
their moms. I guess that means I'll be sending a card soon. Sorry I
haven't been the best with writing letters! We had an investigator
come to the women's conference and good thing they have it broadcasted
in Spanish!  So we are teaching a lot of Spanish here out of anywhere
else I've served. It's weird speaking 2 different languages. It's
almost harder because I have to remember how to speak English.
So I decided that I'm working on a Christlike attribute each transfer
and I'm working on humility right now. I know we need to strip
ourselves of all pride. I know that we always need to become better
and always be seeking God's will and recognizing our own weaknesses.
All of us have some sort of pride. I thought I was so humble because
people told me I was. But it's so not true. I hope I continually seek
to be humble, be teachable, in tune with the spirit, long suffering,
full of love, and patient. Like Mosiah 3:19 "For the natural man is an
enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever
and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and
putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement
of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble,
patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord
seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his
father."
I noticed that most of the talks in women's general conference were
about faith. Some of my favorite quotes were, " I don't know why we
have the many trials that we have, but it is my feeling, that the
reward is so great, so eternal and everlasting, so joyful and beyond
our understanding that in that day of reward, we may feel to say to
our merciful, loving Father, "Was that all that was required?"
What I really gained from the conference is that we have so much to be
grateful for. We have so much to have faith in. Our reward will be so
great if we are true and faithful to our covenants. I really can go on
and on about conference. I'm so excited for the opportunity to hear
from the Prophet this weekend!

9/21/2015 Four New Companions!

Hola! Como estan?!

This week has been an interesting week. So we had a devotional in Wichita and I got to meet my new hija! Her name is Sister Samani! She's from West Valley, Utah and she comes from a huge family of 12! She is Tongan in case you're wondering. So I'm excited to be learning a little bit of Tongan along with Spanish. I'm also excited to be making some Tongan food.

So we're whitewashing an area, which means that there weren't other sisters in the area. So we're starting out brand new. We actually don't even have a house... yet. So we're homeless. Just kidding, we definitely have a place to stay in Hugaton a half an hour away from Ulysses. We're staying with 3 other sisters. I don't know how we do it but somehow all 5 of us have the same schedule and we all get ready in time in the morning with 1 bathroom! We will have to stay here a couple of weeks until we get our apartment in Ulysses. Funny story, I actually drove Sister Samoni to the wrong area.. to Garden City!We laugh about it all the time, although in the moment we weren't so sure what to do! Good thing we didn't have a house anyway, so we just stayed there for a night. Plus Garden City is in our district, so we have to drive an hour and a half to get to district meeting! We've done a lot of driving lately and we're going to continue to do a lot of driving since some people in our ward are an hour away in Colorado!

By the way our ward is so amazing! Our ward is super huge, well.. compared to the Guymon Branch... We have 120 members who regularly attend. The Bishop told us just how their sacrament attendance has been skyrocketing. He said there's going to be so many miracles happening in this ward. Pretty much everyone in town knows who the Mormons are because it's a small town in the middle of nowhere. Our best luck finding people is uniting with the members.

This Sunday was super amazing since there was the primary program. It's so amazing that in this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, even 3 year olds can explain the gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ is so simple and so easy to live and understand! Well since we're the only Spanish missionaries in Ulysses, I had the privilege of translating sacrament meeting. after the sacrament we realized that the Spanish members didn't have headsets and no one was translating. So I talked to a member in charge of the techy stuff and he asked me if I was going to translate. I was caught completely off guard because they mentioned a returned missionary in the ward doing the translation. Well since no one else was translating I just did it. I had no idea what I was doing. I had to go into a different room with headphones and a mic while I heard the speakers. I felt like a secret agent for the Lord (even more so). Before I started translating I went down on my knees and asked for el don de lenguas and to be enabled to translate. It was so easy. Not because I know Spanish very well, but I know that if we have faith in the Lord, he will enable us to do anything that may seem too hard to do on our own. Weak things really become strong, like in Ether 12:27. Good thing I was translating the primary kids, because they keep things simple. "Jesus died for us." "We need Prophets on the earth today." and then it started getting more complicated. Good thing I have the first vision of Joseph Smith memorized in Spanish. And then there were just a few times I couldn't quite translate because they started speaking really fast and talking about the story of the lost sheep. I now know lost sheep is "ovejas perdidas". Apparently the Spanish speakers were laughing when I tried to translate that part.

 Then for sunday school I was caught off guard when they asked me to teach the gospel principles class in Spanish. So I did it and I actually was able to understand everything and speak when I needed to say. It was so awesome. I know I've been on the mission for a while but I'm just barely starting to be comfortable with Spanish. I think it's because early on in my mission we didn't teach many spanish speakers. But then slowly I've been teaching more and more in Spanish. I think it's because I don't have the crutch of having a companion that speaks fluently or anyone else in my area who's a native. It's so amazing how we can really stretch ourselves if we use the atonement of Christ.

9/7/2015 Represent Christ

Hola Hermanos y Hermanas,
This transfer flew by way to fast! I don't want to leave Guymon,
Oklahoma! We have one more week left until we find out who's going and
who's staying. Hopefully Sister Flygare and I stay! We went to the zoo
for free in Garden City for stake P-day so here's a pretty awesome
picture.

8/31/2015 Blessings!

Dear family,
It has been a little bit over a year since I first opened my mission
call. Kansas Wichita Mission, Spanish speaking. Who would've thought
I'd learn Spanish in Kansas and Oklahoma. This mission is so huge but
I've only served in western Kansas and the Panhandle of Oklahoma. I
hear all the time just how everyone wants to serve in the west. The
Garden City stake is so big! It's not so big in numbers but the area
it covers is so vast. Who would've thought 3 states would cover one
stake? Our branch is so small. On average 20 members, 6 missionaries
and 4 investigators come to church. Our chapel is also the relief
society room and the gym. Our baptismal font is so tiny.

We are so spoiled in Utah because there are members all around. Being
a Mormon in Kansas or Oklahoma is so much harder. There are lots of
part member families. Lots of temptations and pressures from friends
and family who don't share the same values. And it's sad to say there
are lots of less actives as well. But that's why we have missionaries.
We just need to help everyone realize what they need in their life,
for their happiness... For their exaltation. I don't know about you
but the blessings we receive from the gospel far outweigh the
sacrifice we give. Sometimes we don't see the blessings now, but we
definitely will see them some day if we remain faithful.

Mosiah 2:41 "And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on
the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of
God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and
spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received
into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of
never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are
true; for the Lord God hath spoken it."

I'm so grateful to being serving the Lord, not just for 18 months, but
for life. I have definitely drawn closer to my savior and Heavenly
Father. I know there's just so more I need to learn here.

8/24/2015 My Family is Awesome!

Dear Family,
Thanks so much for your email with everyone writing in it, even
Parker!  I'm the luckiest girl alive! I have a family that has been
supporting me since day 1. I seriously cannot thank you enough for all
that you've given me. I cannot thank my Heavenly Father enough.

This week has definitely been a learning experience for me. I've
learned that God has prepared people right now to hear the gospel.
"The field is white already to harvest." That doesn't mean I have to
wait to see baptisms in 4 months. People are ready right now. We've
been teaching a lot of people and focusing on those who aren't ready
to be baptized or don't want to be baptized right now but maybe later.
We've had experiences with people that want to be baptized but then
they are persuaded by the world otherwise. We've been praying about
who we need to focus on and who is ready for baptism. Our prayers were
answered and we've found a couple of families this week who have that
sincere desire to change and be baptized.

We had a miracle last night. We had a long day and we honestly didn't
know who the last person we should try before we returned home. We
decided to see if this lady that we met a week ago was home. We found
her trying to find a home of a less-active member. Last night she
graciously let us into her home and tried to get her 2 kids to listen
as well. She speaks English really well, especially for it being her
3rd language. She's from Haiti and is fluent in French and Creole.
There's actually a lot of diversity in Guymon from people working at
Seaboard. Anyway, we taught her the message of the restoration and she
 believed all that we had said about Joseph Smith. She believed that
he had a lot of faith to see Heavenly Father and Christ. When the
spirit was strong, we invited her to be baptized on the 12th of
September. She was blown away how fast it was and she wouldn't be
ready by then. We testified to her about baptism and we would help her
achieve that goal. We told her to pray and ask God if that was the
right time for her to be baptized. She said that she knew God would
answer her. She was more comfortable praying in her native language.
So we all kneeled down and she prayed a sincere prayer full of faith
asking if she should be baptized on September 12th. Even though we
were called to speak Spanish and not Creole, we were able to feel the
spirit so strong and have the gift of tongues. I can't explain it
because I didn't know exactly when she said, but I knew enough what
her intent was through the spirit. We asked her how she felt and she
really wanted to be baptized.

There are so many miracles I've seen this week! I know every day there
are miracles happening in our lives.
