6/29/2015 Milagro!!!

We had a baptism in Guymon Oklahoma on Sunday! It was so amazing! It has truly been a roller coaster with Sylvia. I've only known her for less than a week, but so much has happened. The sisters have been working with her for about 4 months. They almost stopped teaching her because she wasn't progressing, but the Lord knew better. My first day in Guymon, we had a lesson with her. Her date to be baptized was June 28, but she wasn't completely sure about it. Sister Rosell felt impressed to tell her that they were going to stop teaching her because they thought she didn't want it. They kept coming back for some reason though. That day, Sylvia was sick and she knew that Heavenly Father was telling her, "You need to stay here and listen." But after we said the opening prayer before the lesson... she told us that she was ready to be baptized! We all teared up and felt the spirit so strong. We left the apartment just so happy! It was such a battle before Sylvia came into the font to be baptized. We all prayed so hard that it would happen. After the Baptismal Interview the Elders told her "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith." Which we felt prompted to say to her, but we didn't. But really I think that quote was needed for me. I doubted for a little bit. I can testify to you that praying works! Praying and acting on faith is so powerful.

Sylvia was baptized!!! 

I love you so much and I know that you "receive no witness after the trial of your faith"!

6/22/2015 Guymon Oklahoma

Hola,
It's been a super crazy week at home! 2 weddings, a baby, and Fathers day! 

Well It has been even a more crazy week in Liberal, Kansas. Sister Kammeyer and I had two really solid referrals from members. One referral was from the Bishop. One less-active member decided to start coming back to church and his girlfriend decided to find out more about our church. So we started teaching them June 7th, and now Christina wants to get baptized on July 11. We are so excited for her and her faith. She's reading the Book of Mormon like crazy and trying to keep all the commandments of God. We got a new ward mission leader and he had a genius idea of having 3 families pray for each investigator we had that was progressing. So we did it.. and we watched the miracles happen. Billy and Christina have been engaged for 5 years and have the cutest 4 year old daughter named Jojo... so it's time for them to get married before she can be baptized. Just last week we taught them the law of Chastity and they committed to living it. Well it looks like we'll have a wedding this weekend! We were so happy we literally jumped up and down for joy when we heard the news. We've been praying so hard for them to just pick a date to be married. We know we still need to keep praying because you know Satan, he likes to get people when they're super close to making a right decision.

We know that prayers really are answered. We called to tell the families that were praying for them about them getting married! One of the members said,"Well I guess God really does answer my prayers." Yes, yes he does.

Another amazing miracle from Heavenly Father happened this week. Ever since I've been here, a member of our ward, Sister Ramirez, has told us about one of her friends that she might have us teach. We put it on the back burner for a while and then forgot about it. Well actually everything was perfect timing because we had dinner with the Ramirez family and we asked beforehand if she still wanted us to come teach her friend Herminia. Well she agreed to, but she was pretty nervous about it. We asked her,"What's the worst that can happen?" She was worried about their friendship and that their friendship wouldn't be the same. But she held on strong. When we first met Hermania, her face lit up and she smiled from ear to ear. She wasn't expecting us to come at all, but she let us in her apartment. Sister Ramirez started talking to her and telling her how much this Gospel means to her and she didn't want it to change their friendship. We started just talking to Hermania about her life. She's been through a lot. She recently moved from England and then before than she lived in Cuba. She really doesn't have any friends or family. She told us that her best friend in the whole world was Sister Ramirez. After she finished telling us everything about her and everything she felt, we were all in tears. She told us that she prayed just a day earlier for something to happen in her life. I can't remember exactly what she told us. But I just remember she was praying and yearning for something. We then told her about the Book of Mormon and read a little in it. Then we asked her to be baptized on July 11. She accepted. She was so open to everything we were saying. I've never seen anyone so prepared for the Gospel. She was just so humble and so close to the Lord, she knew that's what he wanted for her. She told us that she had to work on Sundays, so we didn't even remind her about church, because we figured she couldn't come. Well since Sister Ramirez works with her, they pulled a couple of strings, and she came to Sacrament meeting! It was so incredible! It was all because of Heavenly Father.

I'm going to be transferred to Guymon, Oklahoma with Sister Rosell, who was my companion in the MTC! It's so weird because I had a feeling I'd go there! I'm so excited because I can still go to the wedding this weekend because Guymon is only a 45 minute drive from Liberal. I'm also excited because Guymon is a cute little town and also because I'm already friends with my companion. I know that's were the Lord wants me to go too, and all these other things are just a bonus.

6/15/2015 Kansas Skies

Dear Family,

     Here's a picture just right before a Kansan Storm. We got to drive by this lightning storm as we drove in the night picking up some sisters in Guymon, Oklahoma for a zone conference the next day. The storm was so beautiful; I've never seen anything like it. Don't worry we were aware of our surroundings and we wouldn't of driven if it was too dangerous. :) It was so incredible because we didn't hear any sound, we just saw light flashing for a couple of hours as we drove. It was better than watching fireworks because I think our Heavenly Father can create more beauty than we ever can imagine.

    There's so much to say about this week, but yet I don't have the words to say everything. I know this week is such a big week everyone in the family. My big brother is finally getting married! It's a miracle that I got to know his bride to be before I left on a mission and that we're good friends. I know I get to miss my niece being born. I'm excited to find out her name this week and see if she looks more like her mom or her dad. I'm excited to find out when her first climb will be, because I know Casey and Sheralee will teach her to climb before she can walk or even crawl!

     It's going well here in Liberal. I'm learning so much every day, I wish I could remember everything I'm learning and apply it all. I'm learning what the definition of "fun" really is. A lot of people are confused at what we do and we spend all day doing it. They ask us if we ever get time off or get to sleep in. And of course no we don't. But that's okay because the most fun you can have is saving a human soul. We work as hard as we can to find those people who are ready for baptism and teach those who are progressing towards baptism. Baptism is so important because that's the gate towards eternal life. This week we realized we were spending too much time with people who don't want to be baptized or can't be baptized. It's hard to just drop them because I know at one point in their life they did choose Christ before they came here. Some brilliant sister missionary said something at zone conference that caught my attention. She said that she doesn't want to go to the spirit world and run into someone who asks her why she never told her about God's plan or even let her shut the door. I don't want that to happen. That would be a pretty bad regret.

      This is my first transfer out of training... So I've got my training wheels off and I feel like I'm falling off my bike a lot or getting off my bike when it comes to those uphills. But I'm slowing learning to just trust myself and God. I'm slowing learning from setbacks. I thought missionary work was pretty easy at first. Third week into the first transfer Sister Adams and I brought someone into the waters of baptism. I thought, "Wow missionary work is so easy!" I was so pumped. Then for two months we haven't had any baptisms. Nope missionary work is not so easy. I know it's only 2 months and in God's time that's like 1/10,000 of a blink of an eye. So Sister Kammeyer and I are pushing forward. We know we can bring others to Christ through this restored gospel. We are finding people, we just need to help them progress toward baptism!

6/8/2015 Temples are amazing!

Dear Family,

I don't have much time to email today.. lo siento. We're going to have a stake p-day so we need to leave soon. I wanted to show you this picture of the Oklahoma City temple! It was so incredible to be in the house of the Lord. I was going through temple withdraws because it's been about 5 months since I've been to the temple. I know so much peace and happiness comes from the temple. From being sealed for time and all eternity with our family, to helping others receive the ordinances of the gospel. I love you so much and I want to share a scripture with you. 

3 Nephi 12:16 "Therefore let your light so shine before this people, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

So let your light shine!

I'm very excited to be having a new member of our family. I hope Sheralee doesn't go into labor while the power is out. I hope all is well in the family. I'm also very excited for Cameron to be marrying Marissa! So many new adventures this month! I love you guys!

Dear Family and Friends,

As you may know, Elder L. Tom Perry passed away! I looked at that article about him on LDS.org and I found out a couple of awesome facts about him. I also like this quote from him. “I’m just a very ordinary man with an extraordinary calling to reach out to people and bear witness of the Savior,”

I just emailed 4 days ago, so there's not much more to report on. I was surprised the other day to get a call from Aunt Teresa because she was in Wichita wanting to visit me. Wichita is over 4 hours away from Liberal, so they'd have to drive quite a ways. It was so awesome to hear from her! But I had to keep the call super brief because I know we can't have family or friends call/visit us. It's one of the many rules in the missionary handbook to help us keep our minds focused on the mission. So heads up if you were thinking about visiting me in Kansas! :)

We are doing so good in Liberal, Kansas. We've just been talking to so many nice people! Actually lately we've been exactly at the right place at the right time. It's been so crazy and we know that Heavenly Father puts them right in our path.

We had a miracle just this past week with this girl named Bianca. We were pulled up to her house and it looked like no one was home. We said a prayer, looked back and someone pulled up behind us. Turns out the person we originally were going to visit, moved out. So Bianca just barely moved into the house a couple days prior (she has a couple of roommates). We talked to her for not even 5 minutes and then we invited her to come have a church tour. She actually seemed really interested. When we went into the chapel, she said she felt awesome! We told her that was the spirit. It was so amazing. We invited her to be baptized (of course) and she accepted! This was such an amazing miracle from the Lord.

We got a referral from a member of someone in a different ward. They just said that she wanted to learn more about genealogy. Her name is Kathy, and she's not too interested in joining the church. But that will soon change. She has a lot of medical problems and I know she was kept alive for a reason. She literally has 9 lives and she's told us just some amazing experiences she has had. All she can say is,"I know that God lives." We love her and she has the most positive attitude even though she's been through so much.

Alma 13: 28-29 "But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering; Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest."

This past week has been so amazing! Thanks so much for your prayers!
